I let out a deep sigh as I stare into the mountains. It’s been three days since I last saw her. In nature, that’s the equivalent of three years’ worth of danger. There’s no guarantee that I’ll ever see her again.

After all we’ve been through together, I can’t believe that she’d just run off like that. Sure, we’ve had our differences, but I thought that we had a good understanding of each other. I thought she knew that I’d never betray her, not like all the others who’d tried gaining her trust before.

And yet, she ran away. She left without so much as a good-bye. Maybe she just needed some time to herself. Maybe she wanted some peace and quiet. Or maybe our relationship wasn’t as strong as I thought.

I shake my head as I sit down in the tall grass. When I’m sitting upright, I’m able to peek over the tops of the grass to see the mountains. Maybe she’ll make a surprise appearance. If she does, I can try to make amends. For what? That’s yet to be determined. But I can apologize nonetheless.

And then maybe, just maybe, she’ll let me take a picture of her. Imagine that; me, an aspiring professional photographer, getting the very first photograph ever of the elusive yellow-bellied tiger.

Final Comments: The hardest part of this was figuring out what type of animal to have the protagonist try to photograph…
