Take Ten to Write

“Under Water”

Author’s Note: This is a Take Ten to Write story and has not been proofread for errors. If I feel inspired or if there’s interest in the story, I’ll post a revised, edited, and extended version at a later date. Happy reading!

The hand broke the surface, pushing back the waves that were fighting to hold it down. It clawed at the air, grasping for a hold that wasn’t there. The water kept buffeting it, over and over.

Slowly, the hand sank back down. A cloud of bubbles rose to the surface as a dark figure sank down below the rippling waves.

Soon after, the water calmed. The clouds pulled away, letting the sun reflect on the light ripples. Eventually, the water stilled completely, the surface a mirror of the sky above.

It wasn’t until thousands of years later that the mysterious creature washed up on the shore. Its body had somehow been preserved under the water. Its spiked skull and cloven feet were reminiscent of the creatures of legend. Agueania, they were called.

Demons of the Deep.

Final Comments: I got stuck near the end… Didn’t really know where to go after that… But the beginning part was interesting to imagine. I think I would’ve liked to go back and provide a more detailed description of the atmosphere and mood during the dramatic portion…
