“To Kill A King”
Author’s Note: This is a Take Ten to Write story and has not been proofread for errors. If I feel inspired or if there’s interest in the story, I’ll post a revised, edited, and extended version at a later date. Happy reading!
Once upon a time, there was a beautiful princess who yearned for freedom. She had been stolen away from her parents, the King and Queen of Pattersdom, when she was just two weeks old by her father’s evil sister, Queen Nerella of Oakensdale.
She had been stolen away by her aunt out of pure spite; Queen Nerella had always resented her younger brother for ascending to the throne for the sole reason that he was a man. So, Queen Nerella vowed to take away her brother’s most precious treasure: his daughter.
Princess Mirenna was simply stunning. However, her superior looks made up for her lack in kindness. Having been raised by an evil queen, Princess Mirenna had assumed her adoptive mother’s morals and life goals.
Princess Mirenna wanted to kill the King and Queen of Pattersdom and assume the throne.
However, Queen Nerella had kept her locked away in a tower until she deemed Princess Mirenna fit to fulfill her duty of killing the King and Queen.
It wasn’t until Princess Mirenna’s eighteenth birthday that Queen Nerella finally allowed the girl to leave her tower. She sent her off with a bouquet of roses which the princes would offer to the King and Queen as as anniversary gift. This bouquet was, in fact, poisoned, and as soon as it made contact with the King and Queen’s hands, the poison would begin to take effect.
So, Princess Mirenna left her tower for the first time that she could remember. She clasped the bouquet tightly in her glove-covered hands as she set off to the castle, ready to kill her parents.
Final Comments: Happy Valentine’s Day! Now, on a completely unrelated topic, I thought that I’d try more of a fairy tale approach today. It was fun to combine different elements from the more well-known fairy tales while still adding my own twist.
