Prompt: Why did the chicken cross the road?

You’ve probably heard this riddle several times already: ‘Why did the chicken cross the road?’

Well, you’re in luck, because I know the answer.

You see, chickens are incredibly intelligent creatures. It’s a little known fact that chickens are actually descended from the mighty wolf. That’s just amazing, isn’t it?!

And, just as a fun side note, you might be interested to learn that the real reason that dogs always bark at chickens is because they’re actually jealous of chickens’ almost supernatural ability to sense the best way to reach their destination. See, dogs might have gotten the wolf’s looks, but chickens definitely got their intelligence.

Which brings us back to the original point. See, because humans have basically covered the entire planet with roads at this point, chickens have been forced to begin crossing roads to reach their destinations in the most effective and efficient manner possible.

Really, I think that the topic at hand is merely a subtopic of a much larger issue: the endangerment of chickens.

Chickens had been living peacefully for thousands of years before humans came along and started populating the planet. These roads are only a fraction of the danger that humans bring to chickens, and thus, humans must be stopped.

Chickens deserve the same happiness as any other living creature. They should not have to be exposed to the dangers of roads.

So, why did the chicken cross the road? Well, quite simply, because they had no other choice.

Final Comments: This one was actually quite fun to write. I enjoyed writing from the POV of a chicken (it was a first for me). Also, I’d just like to say that I’ve been reading a lot of scientific papers recently, which is probably why this story ended up being an excerpt from a paper.
