“Ticking Time Bomb”
Author’s Note: This is a Take Ten to Write story and has not been proofread for errors. If I feel inspired or if there’s interest in the story, I’ll post a revised, edited, and extended version at a later date. Happy reading!
Ticking time bomb.
I’m a ticking time bomb. It’s a matter of days before I explode, before I’ve had enough.
And it’s not my fault, I swear. I didn’t mean for all this to happen, for the insanity to spread to us too.
Listen, I’ve taken care of enough people in this world to know that this illness isn’t at all contagious. No, it’s more of a you-have-it-or-you-don’t type of deal, where you know if you have it when you’re born.
I wasn’t born with it. I’m one of the few who developed it later in life.
So, here we are now. I know that my time here is running out, but isn’t that the fun part of life? Enjoyment and rainbows and desserts, just all-around happiness.
Because I know that once this insanity fully sinks its little claws into me, the bomb will explode.
Final Comments: It’s a short one today; I had a long day at school so my brain isn’t really functioning right now (that’s my excuse and I’m sticking to it).
