“Through the Smoke”

“Shh,” Jin hisses, yanking me to his side and clamping a hand over my mouth.

“Mmm mm-mm mmm?!” is what leaves my mouth.

Jin gives me a glare but loosens his grip.

“What’s going on?” I whisper.

He opens his mouth and a loud growl escapes in response.

I blink. That didn’t sound like Jin.

Slowly, I turn. Smoke rises, casting a dark cloak over my surroundings. The only sign that Jin is still here is his hand, still clasped around my arm from when he grabbed me.

But behind us, through the smoke, there’s a light. Two lights.

No, not lights. Eyes.

Hands grab me and spin me around. Jin’s wild eyes meet mine. His lips form a word that I can’t hear. But I understand.

“Run.”
