Take Ten to Write

“They Were Safe”

Author’s Note: This is a Take Ten to Write story and has not been proofread for errors. If I feel inspired or if there’s interest in the story, I’ll post a revised, edited, and extended version at a later date. Happy reading!

Music prompt: “Radioactive Rain” by Smith & Thell

They stood together, arms wrapped around each other, foreheads pressed together. Their eyes gazed into each other’s soul, their hearts relived memories together.

Their awkward first date.

Their disastrously special wedding day.

Every time they said ‘I love you’.

Their memories made them oblivious to the world around them. Oblivious to the fire falling from the sky. Oblivious to the panicked screams. Oblivious to the pain.

Together, they were everything.

Together, they were happy.

Together, they were safe.

And together, they closed their eyes as the world exploded.

Final Comments: I love this song so much. This one was a bit challenging to write, but I really enjoyed it.
