“The True Magician”
Author’s Note: This is a Take Ten to Write story and has not been proofread for errors. If I feel inspired or if there’s interest in the story, I’ll post a revised, edited, and extended version at a later date. Happy reading!
Prompt: “The leaves are falling!”
The leaves were falling.
This was a particularly unusual sight, as gravity had ceased to exist when the planet had blown up. No one was quite sure what was up and what was down anymore.
The leaves could’ve been rising, for all they knew.
But that didn’t change the fact that every single leaf was headed in the same direction. Up or down, it didn’t matter. They were all moving toward a common target.
This target was a small child. A boy, no more than six months old.
He didn’t know it at the time, but he had just become the youngest–and only remaining–True Magician.
As the boy grew, the leaves followed him. The boy learnt to float through the universe, to dodge around the remaining chunks of planet, to survive by himself. Everywhere he went, so did the leaves.
Everyone thought that he was dangerous, that he would someday use his army of leaves to mount an attack on the tiny remaining human population. They gave him wary looks and followed him with their eyes.
Of course, they were right. The True Magician did, in fact, have the ability to not only control the leaves, but every existing object in the universe.
He wasn’t aware of this. How could he be, when he had no guidance?
On his eighteenth birthday, as he was deemed capable of caring for himself, he was given a choice. Either dismiss his leaves, or be banished.
Even though he longed to be rid of his pesky followers, he didn’t know how to shoo them away. So, he was banished.
For years, he roamed the galaxy. Through tales of other species, he began to learn more about his abilities. As he grew, so did his powers.
Then, as he seemed to reach the height of his power, he disappeared. Centuries passed, but he never returned.
That is, until today.
Final Comments: I feel like the plot for this one was a bit generic and boring…
