“The True Hero”

Author’s Note: This is a Take Ten to Write story and has not been proofread for errors. If I feel inspired or if there’s interest in the story, I’ll post a revised, edited, and extended version at a later date. Happy reading!

Prompt: Write a story titled “The True Hero”.

None of us expected that Pietro of all people would be The True Hero; least of all me.

I mean, come on, am I really crazy to think that it’s weird that the little guy is The True Hero? Pietro’s favourite thing to do is eat, for crying out loud! Yeah, you heard me correctly, he loves to eat!

But, the prophecy said that it would be Pietro, and you can’t just ignore a prophecy; that’d be crazy.

So, we all hailed Pietro as The True Hero. He was basically treated like royalty. Still, there was some little part of me that couldn’t believe that he was The True Hero.

But then, the Worm came. It was tearing up the entire world. Lots of people tried defeating the Worm, but they all failed. When it seemed like all hope was lost, The True Hero stepped up.

To be honest, no one really knows how Pietro got the Worm to stop, but he did. The Worm simply left.

My leading theory is that Pietro annoyed the Worm so much that the Worm just gave up and went home. I mean, there’s just no way that he actually defeated the Worm or anything.

Still, however he managed to do it, I guess Pietro still succeeded in saving the world. I guess that does make him The True Hero.

Ugh, what has this world become?
