“The Spark”
Author’s Note: This is a Take Ten to Write story and has not been proofread for errors. If I feel inspired or if there’s interest in the story, I’ll post a revised, edited, and extended version at a later date. Happy reading!

The lights flashed across the sky, trailing behind erratic patterns. They seemed to have minds of their own, crashing into each other, following each other, avoiding each other. Each streak of brightness created its own path, its own future.
Another flash. The arrival of a challenger.
Pure energy. Violent, chaotic, lawless.
Lightning.
Sparks flew. None dared cross the other. The lights became calmer in the shadow of the lightning. They knew they could not compete.
They knew, yet they did not yield. They strategized, creating the calm before the storm.
The lightning drank in its power, bathing in the glory of victory.
The lights gathered. Slowly but steadily, they grew.
The lightning grew wary. Its confidence faltered.
An explosion. Deafening, blinding, world-shattering.
Then, nothing.
Nothing… until a singular spark lit up the universe once more.
Final Comments: This one became strangely poetic…
