Take Ten to Write

“The SkyDome”

Author’s Note: This is a Take Ten to Write story and has not been proofread for errors. If I feel inspired or if there’s interest in the story, I’ll post a revised, edited, and extended version at a later date. Happy reading!

Music prompt: “Between the Stars” by Sergey Azbel

The world is so small from up here, almost like everyone is ants ad I’m just barely able to see them. I don’t understand how giants live like this, seeing the whole world at once. I would be so confused by everything that’s happening that I wouldn’t be able to get anything done.

I’ve been wanting to visit the SkyDome since I saw the original plans, but I could never afford the VIP admission fee. It had been sheer luck and coincidence that had enabled me to finally get a ticket and fulfill my dream.

Now, standing up here looking down over Kovon, I can say with absolute certainty that the wait was worth every second. The planet itself is scenic and gorgeous, but from up here, it’s possible to see the very history of the planet.

To the right of the SkyDome, the first colonies were formed, creating an organized pattern across the planet’s surface. The intricate maze of civilization interrupts the otherwise plant-covered ground.

To the left of the SkyDome, the planet’s surface is still completely natural without a sign of colonization. The multicoloured foliage makes the ground look like it’s covered in cotton candy, soft and inviting. Of course, the dangers beneath those cloud-like trees are very real, but in this moment, I can just enjoy the view from the SkyDome.

Final Comments: I have no idea why this story was so difficult to write, and I feel like I didn’t do the music prompt justice…
