“The Secret Project”

Prompt: “Write a story titled ‘The Secret Project’.” — suggested by Mary

I watch through narrowed eyes as Ned peeks out of the room. He glances both ways before fully exiting the room, softly closing the door behind him, and sauntering away down the hallway as if he wasn’t just in a restricted area.

Still, I wait. There’s no point in barging into the room if the others are still in there; my job is to figure out what they’re up to, and that will be much harder to do if I startle them into hiding.

Not a minute later, Bella and Anna exit the room together, following the same precautions that Ned had. As soon as they disappear down the hallway, Olivia and Pierre do the same.

That just leaves Vivian. My sources say that she’s in charge of this project, so she’s probably finishing up whatever work she has left before leaving for the night.

A good fifteen minutes pass before the door creaks open again. Unlike the other members of her team, Vivian walks out of the restricted area with confidence, apparently not caring who sees her breaking the rules.

I wait until she’s out of sight before dashing to the door. It’s not locked, so I head straight in.

I flick on the lights and my jaw drops.

Final Comments: I couldn’t think of an actual project for them to be doing… Maybe it was something spooky like for Halloween??
