“The Ravens”

The sun was shining before the Ravens attacked.

One minute, it was day. The next, it was night.

Pure darkness descended over the army. The ruffling of feathers whispered across the plains, underlying the nervous murmuring of the soldiers. They had been trained to fight blind, having been warned by their scouts of what lay in store.

But no amount of training could have prepared them.

Talons hauled soldiers, screaming and kicking, into the air. Beaks pierced through armour as if it were paper. Blood rained down over the battlefield.

It was over in minutes.

The sun was shining after the Ravens attacked.

But the darkness remained.
