“The Predator”
Author’s Note: This is a Take Ten to Write story and has not been proofread for errors. If I feel inspired or if there’s interest in the story, I’ll post a revised, edited, and extended version at a later date. Happy reading!
Prompt: “Little did she know that __________.”
The small creature broke her cover, sprinting toward the open field.
Little did she know that she was being watched. Her every movement was being closely monitored and analyzed by eyes that could pierce through even the darkest of nights.
The Predator, he was called. He went by no other name, and nothing more of his identity was known. He was feared by all, but seen by very few.
This night, he was intently stalking his next piece of prey. She scuttled to and fro, unaware of the danger lurking in the trees just above her.
With a quick flick of his tail, the Predator pounced. A shrill squeal from the creature signaled that he had hit his mark.
Moments later, silence again.
The Predator sank his sharp teeth deep into the little creature’s fur, dragging her along back to his lair. He moved from cave to cave. This nomadic lifestyle was necessary, as prey would be sure to steer clear of his known whereabouts. His lifestyle called for the utmost secrecy.
As soon as the Predator reached his cave, he dug into his meal. He had no time to waste; he would need to wake early the next morning to begin his search for a new cave.
Final Comments: I’m not sure I like the narration style I chose for this one…
