“The Power”

I can’t believe that it’s already the first day of school.

It feels like it was just yesterday that I applied here. The very first goblin to come to a human school, imagine that. Of course, the application process was a bit long and tedious–I’d imagine that I was screened much more thoroughly than most human applicants–but it was all worth it in the end. Because here I am, about to take my first steps onto campus.

I take a deep breath before placing my foot carefully onto the brick inside the huge archway that marks the entrance to the school. I’ve officially taken my first step onto campus.

Immediately, I feel the Power of the school flood over me. I know that it’s dangerous for someone like me to attend a human school for exactly this reason, but the academics here were just too good to pass up for such a trivial problem. I push away the feeling and make my way to my first class.

The Power grows stronger as I pass larger crowds of students. They all turn and stare at me, intensifying the Power. But I ignore them. I’m here for me, not for them.

I’m finally able to find my first classroom. I make sure to have a smile on my face as I walk inside. After all, first impressions are lasting.

I find a seat at the very front of the classroom. The Power increases as more students file into the classroom, making sure to stay clear of me. It grows even stronger as the teacher walks past, staring at me before she turns to write her name on the board.

The Power feels so heavy on me, but I push through. I deserve to be here too. I went through the application process just like everyone else. I’m officially a student here. The Power shouldn’t affect me.

No, it won’t affect me. I won’t let it.

Final Comments: This turned into something much different than I originally intended it to be…
