Take Ten to Write

“The Life of a (Metaphorical) Heart”

Author’s Note: This is a Take Ten to Write story and has not been proofread for errors. If I feel inspired or if there’s interest in the story, I’ll post a revised, edited, and extended version at a later date. Happy reading!

Prompt: “I am at heart a gentleman.” — Marlene Dietrich

Being a heart isn’t always easy. That is, a metaphorical heart. The real, biological component of the human that pumps blood and all that fun stuff has a much harder job than me, and can I just say that I much prefer what I do.

Being a metaphorical heart means that I just create emotions and hand them out like candy. And oh, let me tell you, it can be fun sometimes. I get to mess around all day and control my human.

Okay, let’s use a scenario as an example. My human sees a person. Eh, average-looking, average-intelligence, average, well, everything. The day’s been pretty boring so far, so I decide to have a bit of fun.

My human takes one look at the person. Bam! Happiness. Bam! Warm and fuzzy. Bam! Love.

It’s as simple as that. Maybe I’ll decide later to switch it up, introduce some conflict to make my life more entertaining.

I’ll tell you, it’s like watching a soap opera. With only one person. And everything’s controlled by me.

It’s pretty entertaining.

But, I will admit, I have a bit of a soft spot for my human. At the end of the day, I’ll always figure out a way to make my human feel good. If my human is happy, then I’m happy, and I figure that I deserve to feel happy for all the hard work I do.

Final Comments: I’m not entirely sure how I feel about this one… I had a hard time thinking about what to write, so this is just kind of the first thing I thought of.
