“The Gift of Light”
Author’s Note: This is a Take Ten to Write story and has not been proofread for errors. If I feel inspired or if there’s interest in the story, I’ll post a revised, edited, and extended version at a later date. Happy reading!

It was dark. Not even a single twinkle of light shone through the shop window. So when the lamp flickered to life, everything inside jolted at the sudden brightness.
The lamp creaked with laughter. It hadn’t meant to surprise the others; it had only wanted to help them see. And, one by one, they opened their eyes and they saw for the first time.
The wooden figures slowly rose to their feet. At least, those with feet rose to them. Others were perpetually sitting, others lying down. And then, there were those that didn’t have feet at all, or whose feet were not yet finished.
Regardless of their type of feet or whether they had any, all of them came to life. Those with eyes blinked while those without raised their heads with wonder. And it was wondrous indeed that they could tell that something around them had changed without seeing.
Slowly, they all made their way toward the light. Toward the lamp, their saviour. Their hero who had given them the gift of vision.
Final Comments: This one didn’t feel the smoothest to write… I wasn’t really sure where the plot was going (or if it was going anywhere at all!).
