“The End of an Era”

Prompt: Write a story titled “The End of an Era”.

People say that the end of the world will come unexpectedly. That some massive force of nature will wipe out the entire population on Earth, leaving space for the next dominant species to take over.

But that’s not what’s going to happen. In reality, a massive force of nature won’t be what causes the end of the world.

It’ll be me.

You see, I’ve noticed a problem throughout the duration of my lifetime here on Earth. The people. The people are the root of all problems, as well as the root of all evil. Sure, there are some good ones scattered here and there, but even they are tainted by some form of evil.

Consequently, the planet itself is suffering. It’s suffering for all of the people’s mistakes and all of the people’s petty squabbles. It’s suffering because of greed and stupidity.

But the thing is, all this suffering is unnecessary. It could be avoided. With one simple fix.

Wipe the slate clean. Start fresh. The planet will be able to recover. The people? Less so. But no people means no suffering.

I have devised a method of making such an event possible. Together, we can bring it to fruition. Together, we can save this planet.

Join me. Together, let’s bring an end to this era of pain and suffering and welcome a new world of peace.

Final Comments: I wasn’t really sure what type of narration I was going for, but I think the speech-like style worked in the end.
