Take Ten to Write

“The Dust”

Author’s Note: This is a Take Ten to Write story and has not been proofread for errors. If I feel inspired or if there’s interest in the story, I’ll post a revised, edited, and extended version at a later date. Happy reading!

I remember when the sun used to shine. Or rather, I like to think that I can remember that time. It feels like it was so long ago that I was able to feel the warm rays shining down on me. Comforting me. Lighting up my world.

No one was prepared when the Dust came. It swept over the entire world, enveloping everything in its suffocating embrace. The whole world was in shock, then the panic came. Chaos ensued.

It’s the story that everyone would expect. Except humans never turned on each other. We did exactly the opposite of what anyone would expect.

We banded together, created a safe haven of our own. Everyone wanted to survive, to thrive in our new conditions. Sure, there are always some that want to create a new world order. But I made sure that I was never anywhere near something like that. I took care of myself first. I did what I had to do to survive.

Life is a journey. I’m sure everyone’s heard that by now. But I don’t think that anyone truly understands what it means to live, to embark on the great journey of life.

But we know. We’ve lived through the worst times, and we’re still here. We’re still alive. We’re still thriving.

We’ve gotten through the worst part already–the surviving part. Now, it’s up to us to make the most out of our new world.

It’s time for us to take control of our lives. No one, no thing, is going to hold us back.

Not even the Dust.

Final Comments: Alright, so there was at least some sort of plot in today’s piece. My thoughts while writing this were still a bit scrambled and I didn’t really have a clear idea of what I wanted to write. Still, I feel like I’m slowly getting back into the (creative) groove of things.
