“The Cave of Tribielon”
Author’s Note: This is a Take Ten to Write story and has not been proofread for errors. If I feel inspired or if there’s interest in the story, I’ll post a revised, edited, and extended version at a later date. Happy reading!
Prompt: “Can’t we just talk about this?”
The rope bites into my wrist as the shadowy creatures circles me. My heart is pounding so fast that I can’t even think anymore.
“Please…” My voice comes out in a hoarse whisper. “Please, can’t we just talk about this?”
The creature stops. It turns to me, the thin spikes on its back bristling. Its long, pointed nose twitches, whiskers brushing against my vulnerable cheek. I jerk away, but its face follows, keeping whiskers in contact with my skin.
“Please…”
In the darkness, its features are masked save for its numerous sharpened points protruding from its body. Spikes. Nose. Claws. Teeth.
It’s a monster unlike any I’ve ever seen. More intelligent, seeing as it had the sense to tie me up. And with a double knot, no less.
If only I had a way to record my discovery. If only I could relay the news of the existence of this marvelous creature to the world.
If only I could warn them not to enter the Cave of Tribielon after dark.
