It was our first argument. Of course it was about something small and dumb. He wanted to go to the other side of the pond to spend time with his friends even though we hadn’t seen each other in over a week. It was like he didn’t even want to be with me at all.

I think that the thing that annoyed me most of all was his clear ignorance of the whole situation. It was like he didn’t even know that I wanted to spend time with him. Seriously, we’re about to have kids together, and he thinks that I don’t want to spend time with him? He’s the only bird I want to spend time with right now!

So I got mad at him. I began honking and squawking and ruffling my feathers in his face. And what did he do? The exact same thing right back at me.

He was mad because with the kids coming, he knew that he wouldn’t have much free time to spend with his buddies anymore. He argued that these would be the last few days that he would be able to spend with his friends before becoming a dad.

I couldn’t believe how selfish he was being. He’d had the entire last week to be with his friends! So what, me being back didn’t change anything? He’d rather spend time with his friends than with me?

Final Comments: I don’t actually know whether swans form families…
