“Spending Wisely”
Author’s Note: This is a Take Ten to Write story and has not been proofread for errors. If I feel inspired or if there’s interest in the story, I’ll post a revised, edited, and extended version at a later date. Happy reading!
Prompt: “He who knows that enough is enough will always have enough.” — Lao Tzu
“Him?”
I nod, a smile tugging at the corners of my mouth. “Yeah, him.”
“But he’s…”
“Perfect? Exactly what we need?”
Tyson scowls. “We both know that that isn’t what i was going to say.”
“I don’t know what you mean,” I say innocently.
Eventually, Tyson sighs. “Fine, he’ll have to do.”
Excitement bubbles up inside me. “Yay!”
Tyson hands me the credit card and I input the information onto the site. Seconds later, the outdated robot is ours.
“He’ll be getting here next week,” I tell Tyson brightly.
“Great, even shipping is taking forever,” Tyson grumbles.
He holds his hand out for his card, but I keep a firm grip on it.
“Hey,” I say slowly, “since we didn’t waste as many credits on the cleaning bot, that means that we have enough for… oh, I don’t know… some ice cream.”
Tyson looks at me with exasperation. “That’s why you wanted that old rust bucket?”
I don’t give him the satisfaction of a response.
Finally, he sighs. “Fine, go get some ice cream.”
“Yay!” I repeat with a wide grin. “Oh yeah, and before I forget, while I have your card, there’s also this new game I thought we could try…”
Final Comments: This one was really all over the place. It was going in a completely different direction at the beginning and then it just kind of changed…
