Take Ten to Write

“Space Journey”

Prompt: Write a story titled “Space Journey”.

Space travel sucks.

It’s literally always dark. You can never go outside because you’d get vacuumed into nothingness. You’re in constant danger of being pelted by loose rocks and bits of debris from other ships that were actually pelted by those aforementioned rocks. You’re completely reliant on a hunk of metal to create all your food and water and oxygen–you know, all the things you need to continue to live?

And don’t even get me started on the living conditions inside the ship. You’re crammed into a tiny room with nine other people, eight of whom you don’t like. You’re forced to eat the same freeze-dried food every single day. You’re given a work assignment that’s inevitably repetitive and mundane that you’re forced to repeat from the very first to the very last day of your trip. And, to top it all off, the only source of entertainment on board the ship is someone’s grandpa who’s a retired opera singer. Don’t ask why or how, but there’s always one on every single ship. And he always thinks that he’s a much better singer than he really is.
