“Simple Pleasure”

Mattress.
Mattresses.
They’re kind of weird, aren’t they? I mean, it’s just some fabric around springs and soft stuffing.
I’ve got to say though: Whoever invented mattresses was an actual genius. Now, people don’t have to lie on the cold, hard ground while we sleep.
My friend brought up a good point today though: Why do humans spend so much time trying to make the world so comfortable and easy to navigate if they’re just going to do things that make life harder for themselves?
Take camping for example–this was actually the example used in my earlier conversation. We literally go out into the middle of nowhere and try to survive in uncomfortable and unsafe conditions.
Why?
Maybe people like challenges. Like the challenge of survival.
Although, I’m not convinced. I think that people wouldn’t be able to survive in a completely machine-filled and based world. I think that people would go crazy with nothing to do, and don’t even get me started on the laziness!
But back to the main point: Mattresses. I find it hard to believe that so many people would simply deny the simple pleasure of having a mattress while others don’t even have their own.
I do think that mattresses are one of those inventions that life easier while not making them overwhelmingly simple. Put simply, mattresses are a luxury.
Final Comments: Mattresses. I really had no idea what to say about this one, so I just kind of rambled…
