Take Ten to Write

“Nullshade”

Author’s Note: This is a Take Ten to Write story and has not been proofread for errors. If I feel inspired or if there’s interest in the story, I’ll post a revised, edited, and extended version at a later date. Happy reading!

Morphists had the ability to Sagemorph their bodies into different shapes, sizes, and forms. A simple growth Sagemorph could increase their muscle mass by ten times, enough to easily overpower a grown man such as Wyrdren. In battle, they were deadly.

The Morphist swung his sword at Wyrdren while Sagemorphing his arm muscles. Wyrdren let out an unintentional cry as the blade sped towards him with blinding speed. Wyrdren prepared himself for death, closing his eyes and waiting for the blade to slice his body in two.

Death never came.

Wyrdren opened his eyes to see the Morphist in front of him stumbling under the weight of his sword. All his previous Sagemorphs had been undone, leaving behind only a skinny boy who looked to be no older than Wydren himself. Without his Sagemorphs, the Morphist could barely lift his sword. His eyes widened at something behind Wyrdren before he stumbled away through the jumble of the battle.

Wydren paused for a moment. How had the Morphist’s Sagemorphs been reversed? He felt the slightest breeze from behind him and looked backwards to see what the Morphist had been staring at.

A Nullshade. A female one, at that. She had flowing, white hair that reached her knees. Wyrdren could tell that she had been wearing a black outfit, although now most of the fabric had been bleached to a dull grey from Nulling. She must have been the one who had saved Wyrdren, but why?

Wyrdren caught her sparkling black eyes for a moment. Then, she was gone, disappearing back into the bloody frenzy of war.

Final Comments: Another type of Chromancer!
