“Not the Chosen One”

I was never supposed to be here. It should’ve been Niko. He was the hero. The warrior. The Chosen One.

Instead, the world has me. A nobody from the middle of nowhere. I’m not a hero or a fighter. I was never chosen.

The ground shakes. A deafening roar echoes across the mountains. There are screams and fire and fear all around me.

I sink to the ground. Niko’s sword slips from my fingers and clatters on the stone at my feet.

What was I thinking? I can’t do this. My big brother was the hero, not me.

Another earth-shattering roar. Wings flap overhead, the shadow of the beast eclipsing me.
