Prompt: Write a story titled “Never Again”.
Okay, first of all, just let me say this: Never, and I repeat, never trust a teddy bear.
Sure, at first, they might seem cute and cuddly. But really, they’re just acting like that to get your attention so that they can smash your heart into tiny little pieces. That was my experience, anyway.
I guess you’re wondering what happened with Mr. Snugglesworth to make me distrust teddy bears so much. Well, I’ll tell you exactly what happened.
Mr. Snugglesworth and I met two weeks ago at the toy store. I knew immediately that he was the one I wanted to spend the rest of my life with.
I took him home that very day and from then on, we were inseparable. We did everything together, from walks to baths to school, everything. He was always there for me, whenever I was sad or happy or angry, he was there.
I remember, on my special graduation day, he was there to hold my hand as I walked out in front of all the parents and teachers to receive my diploma. I’m sure the rest of the kindergartners were jealous that I had someone to walk with me and they didn’t.
Mr. Snugglesworth was my very best friend. Until that one day, when he decided to betray me.
We were on a road trip, me with my parents, to go visit my grandparents. Along the way, we stopped at a park to eat lunch. We laid out our picnic blanket and everything. I sat with Mr. Snugglesworth on my lap and he ate the crumbs that dropped onto his clothes from my sandwich. Then, I went to the bathroom and I left Mr. Snugglesworth in the car.
When I came back, he was gone.
We spent hours looking for him. I called his name, over and over, but he never replied or came back.
I was told that Mr. Snugglesworth decided that it was time for him to go on his own adventure, that he was destined for greatness.
I never believed any of those lies. Mr. Snugglesworth was my whole world, and he just abandoned me. That’s why I’ll never trust anyone ever again.
Final Comments: You know how you always think you’re the most grown-up and intelligent person at whatever age you’re at? I was trying to portray that in the narration style by making it sophisticated even though it’s a little kid speaking. Not sure how well it worked, but it was fun writing it like that.
