“Mr. Nessiram”
Author’s Note: This is a Take Ten to Write story and has not been proofread for errors. If I feel inspired or if there’s interest in the story, I’ll post a revised, edited, and extended version at a later date. Happy reading!
Prompt: Design.
Mr. Nessiram lets out a gasp as he circles around the brightly-lit display.
“It’s perfect,” he finally whispers. His fingers flutter at the edge of the case, but the invisible lasers give him a tickle of a warning before he can get too close. Annoyance flits through his expression as he turns to glare at his assistant. “Get it for me,” he snaps. “I want to feel it in my hands.”
One of the museum’s security guards steps forward hastily. “I’m sorry, sir, but we cannot allow you to touch the exhibits. This one you’ve got your eye on is particularly fragile.”
Mr. Nessiram scowls before turning to his assistant. “Bring it to me,” he says with a snap of his fingers.
“Sir–“
Without warning, Mr. Nessiram’s arm flashes up. The invisible beam hits the security guard and he goes flying across the room. Mr. Nessiram watches the smoke rising from the space the man’s heart used to be.
Alarms begin blaring as his assistant grabs the object. As soon as it’s out of its case, Mr. Nessiarm snatches it from his assistant’s hands .
“It’s perfect,” he repeats, turning the object over in his hands to inspect it from all angles.
Exactly thirty-two seconds later, the rest of the security guards burst into the room. Mr. Nessiram, his assistant, and the priceless artifact were already gone.
Final Comments: He was originally going to steal the blueprint for something but when I wrote it at the end, it didn’t sound right…
