“Mother Nature”
Author’s Note: This is a Take Ten to Write story and has not been proofread for errors. If I feel inspired or if there’s interest in the story, I’ll post a revised, edited, and extended version at a later date. Happy reading!
Prompt: “No occupation is so delightful to me as the culture of the earth, and no culture comparable to that of the garden.” – Thomas Jefferson
The forest stretches for kilometres in every direction. An endless expanse of green, broken only by a tiny clearing.
In this clearing lives a girl. While she looks young, she’s been alive for as long as the first tree of the forest. From her gentle touch sprouted the first sapling. She is more than the world’s protector; she is its mother.
Under her care, the forest flourishes. She looks after all things, both living and inanimate. Every leaf, every ant, every grain of dirt; she cares for them all.
In return, the earth provides her with everything she needs. It gives her food, shelter, friendship. She’s one with the forest, as the forest is one with her.
Final Comments: It was really hard for me to figure out the right wording for this one. Maybe I was just overthinking it…
