“Monster Under the Bed Pt. 2”
Author’s Note: This is a Take Ten to Write story and has not been proofread for errors. If I feel inspired or if there’s interest in the story, I’ll post a revised, edited, and extended version at a later date. Happy reading!
Additional Note: While this story can be read by itself, it is a continuation of a previous Take Ten to Write story. Therefore, it would be beneficial to read Monster Under the Bed first.
Prompt: “A yellow alien species drinks special water.” — suggested by Mary
Whispers filled the pod as they anxiously waited for the Scout’s return. He should be back any second now; it had only been a simple mission to Quadrant 29-E.
The teleporter shimmered. Silence spread throughout the crowd as the light brightened. A high-pitched snap echoed around the room as the smell of ambyoxrine filled the air. The teleporter dimmed before whirring down.
A body. Bright green eyes, dimmed and covered in a film that is only present with death.
Muttering broke out.
“Another one?” “I hate those Quadrant 29-E’s!” “I knew we should’ve sent the Warriors.”
An Elder at the front raised his hand, immediately silencing the gathered crowd. Wordlessly, he bent down next to the still body and brought a vial filled with purple liquid to its lips. When the glass was empty, the Elder set it down and began the Recovery Ritual.
By this time, most of the crowd had begun dispersing. The Scout would have no memory when it awoke. Another wasted mission, and they were no closer to figuring out if Quadrant 29-E had what they needed to survive.
Final Comments: I really enjoyed writing this one! It might become another multi-party story.
