“Love Conquers All”
Author’s Note: This is a Take Ten to Write story and has not been proofread for errors. If I feel inspired or if there’s interest in the story, I’ll post a revised, edited, and extended version at a later date. Happy reading!
Prompt: “It is love, not reason, that is stronger than death.” — Thomas Mann
It was once said that if one’s love is strong enough, they may reverse death. Once a soul had been brought back from the depths of wherever a soul may roam after death, it is renamed a Deathrunner, as they will forever be running from the clutches of Death.
‘One may escape Death, but will forever be on the run.’
Of course, it was no life to be constantly running from Death, and so the Deathrunners would often succumb to the cold of Death in a matter of months. Love could no longer bring them back to life, as their one second chance had already been used up.
Today, the story has changed. Love can no longer bring back the dead, as logic impedes its power. Descendants of the Deathrunners recognized their ancestors’ pain and wished it upon no one else. As much as their love restored life, their logic sucked it back out.
Reason hindered the power of love.
Now, Death is not to be opposed. Death is permanent and inevitable. Everyone knows this.
Love still holds the same power today. All emotions do. That has not changed. But the logic that stems from love itself hinders the very task that love set out to complete.
But while reason empowers Death, there may still be hope. A new love is growing. A collective love, one that can overcome any odds.
So Death had best be prepared. Because Love will soon conquer all.
Final Comments: I’m honestly not really sure where this story would go after this… But I do always enjoy writing about abstract concepts such as Love and Death.
