“Lollipop Love”

Author’s Note: This is a Take Ten to Write story and has not been proofread for errors. If I feel inspired or if there’s interest in the story, I’ll post a revised, edited, and extended version at a later date. Happy reading!

Prompt: Write a story titled “Lollipop”.

He brought me a lollipop every single day. The flavours changed each time–strawberry, lemon, mint, grape–but every single day, he would be standing at the door, waiting for me, holding the lollipop.

On Valentine’s day, he brought me one of those jumbo ones. You know, the ones that are the size of your face.

I had no idea where he got all these lollipops. It wasn’t until this past year that I found out that he used his allowance every month to buy them. His parents didn’t even knw that he was giving them away; they thought that he just really like lollipops.

When we started high school, we started hanging out less. He would spend most of his time with his cool guy friends while I hung out with the music kids. Still, he invariably brought me a lollipop every single day.

After we graduated from high school, we exchanged addresses because we were moving to opposite sides of the country.

I wasn’t expecting him to mail me a lollipop every single day. But every time, when I went down to the mailbox and pulled out the lollipop, it filled me with joy. Not because of the candy, but because of the messages he attached to them.

Yesterday marked the tenth anniversary of me telling him that I loved lollipops. Today marks the tenth anniversary of him starting to bring me lollipops every single day. It also marks our first wedding anniversary.

Final Comments: Eh, the ending was a bit boring.
