Music prompt: “Insomnia” by 2WEI

My heart pounds as I crouch at the top of the building. I close my eyes, trying to steady my nerves.

Just breathe…. In… Out…

My eyes flash open. I’m ready.

The adrenaline bubbles through my body, sending sparks through my entire body. I’ve been training for this moment for years. Finally, it’s time to put what I’ve learnt to the test.

I bounce on the tips of my toes, ready to go. I count myself down.

Five… Four… Three… Two… One…

Go.

Without hesitation, I launch myself off the edge of the cliff. A scream tears from my lungs as I free fall toward the foaming waves below. The exhilaration as I fly through the air will never get old.

I realign my body just before I enter the water so that I can make a safe entrance. The water rushes over me as I land, enveloping me in its icy depths.

I break through the surface and let out a gasp. I feel so alive.

And I’m just getting started.

I begin swimming, fighting the crashing waves and spitting out salt. I reach the shore in record time.

Without wasting a moment, I begin running. I run like my life depends on it, like I’m being chased by a horrific monster.

I dodge through the jungle, leaves whipping at my face and branches raking through my hair. My heart pounds in rhythm with my footsteps.

My muscles begin screaming, but I don’t listen. I keep sprinting. I will break this record.

Just as my body tells me I’ve had enough, my mind takes over. I feel renewed energy and I quicken my pace.

I can see the finish line in sight. I narrow my eyes, focusing on the ribbon that I’ve passed so many times before in practice.

One final push. That’s all I need.

Just breathe… In… Out…

I tear across the finish line, running faster than I’ve ever ran before.

When I’m finally able to slow down, I glance at my watch. Nine minutes and twenty-nine seconds.

I’ve done it. I’ve beaten the record.

Final Comments: This music was so much fun to listen to! It made me think of an action movie.
