Prompt: “It works!”

“It works!” she whispered, her eyes widening with awe. “It actually works.”

Without wasting a moment she jumped to her feet, She ran down the long hallway, past the twelve doors, and skidded to a stop in front of the thirteenth. She took a moment to smooth down her hair and clothes before calmly knocking on the door.

A nasally “What?” echoed from behind the door.

“Beatrice Norman, here to see Lady Umbra,” she said, trying to keep her voice from trembling with excitement.

The door buzzed and clicked open. Beatrice took a deep breath before pushing the door open and walking inside.

“Good morning, Harold,” she said, giving the assistant a sharp nod as she passed. He just grunted in reply.

As she approached the sliding glass doors, her excitement grew. She could see Lady Umbra yelling at someone through the phone, motivating her even more. She remembered when she was the one being yelled at through the phone. But that wouldn’t be her today. No, today, even the impossible-to-please Lady Umbra would be proud of her, because finally, it worked.
