Take Ten to Write

“Into Darkness”

Author’s Note: This is a Take Ten to Write story and has not been proofread for errors. If I feel inspired or if there’s interest in the story, I’ll post a revised, edited, and extended version at a later date. Happy reading!

There is no light.

The electricity went out on July 2, 2020. No one could get it back on. There was mass panic and everyone thought that the world was going to end.

They were right.

The food ran out on December 17, 2021. Some people tried to ration their food, to keep secret stashes and crops and farms. They were the ones who were killed first.

Now only murderers and cowards are left.

Today, October 2, 2022, the sun stopped rising. The stars never shone last night, nor did the moon. Today is the first day in the dark, the last day of survival.

The light was my last hope. The last sign that maybe I still have a chance. That maybe the world isn’t all bad.

But now, it’s gone.

Final Comments: This one is extremely short because I wrote it by hand. I actually really liked this prompt and I think that there were so many possible stories. Of course, I chose to write about an apocalypse…

Overall Rating: 😏
