“I’m Not Mad”
Author’s Note: This is a Take Ten to Write story and has not been proofread for errors. If I feel inspired or if there’s interest in the story, I’ll post a revised, edited, and extended version at a later date. Happy reading!
Prompt: Furious.
“Why are you mad at me?”
“I’m not mad at you.”
“Then why are you running away from you?”
“I’m not running. I have somewhere I have to be.”
I step in front of her, forcing her to stop walking. “And where exactly would that be?”
She grits her teeth before shaking her head and walking around me. “I just want to be alone right now.”
“So you are mad at me.”
“I never said that.”
I throw my head back with a sigh before chasing after her again. “Can’t we just talk about this? You’re obviously upset about something.”
“I’m not.”
This time, I reach out to grab her arm. “Yes, you are. Please, talk to me.”
She narrows her eyes as she looks up at me. “Okay, let’s say that I am mad at you. Would you even know why?”
“Well no, that’s why I’m asking you.”
She scoffs and wrenches her arm from my grasp. “That’s what I thought.” She pushes me away with so much force that I go stumbling back. “Just leave me alone.”
My fists clench as I restrain myself from running after her. And when she raises a hand to her face to wipe away a tear, my heart breaks.
What could I have possibly done?
Final Comments: I think it took me longer to figure out a title for this one than to actually write it…
