Take Ten to Write

“I Wrote 500 Stories in 500 Days”

Author’s Note: This is a Take Ten to Write story and has not been proofread for errors. If I feel inspired or if there’s interest in the story, I’ll post a revised, edited, and extended version at a later date. Happy reading!

Prompt: 500.

I’ve been planning on writing a blog post about my experiences writing 500 stories in 500 days for my Take Ten to Write challenge. I still plan on writing it and posting it in my blog section, but I’ve been having the problem of overthinking what I want to write. So for now, here’s a mini-rant written in 10 minutes about some of the things I’ve learned over the past 500 days.

#1: Writing every day is HARD
Sure, writing in itself is hard and trying to form a new habit is hard, so logically, my TTtW challenge should’ve been hard too, right? Well yeah, I think I proved that point. There were some days that I just didn’t want to write even though it was only for 10 minutes. Other days, I would just sit and stare at the prompt because I didn’t know what to write. I honestly thought that it would get easier, but it never did. My level of motivation really depended on my mood that day. I even seemed to have windows of motivation which, if missed, resulted in a crappy writing session later.

#2: I tend to write better stories when I’m motivated
This probably also makes sense. When I was more motivated and excited to write about a certain prompt, I was better able to plot out the story and I felt more satisfied at the end. But, on the other hand, I found that I was also disappointed sometimes if I had an idea that I was really excited about and couldn’t execute it in the 10 minutes as well as I wanted to.

#3: I definitely grew as a writer
There’s no doubt that I’ve grown as a writer. Not just because this challenge has carried on for so long that I’ve grown as a person, but also because I literally forced myself to write every single day. This meant that I wrote even when I wasn’t feeling motivated and–even though I may not have produced my best work–I still produced something. And, at the end of these 500 days, I can confidently say that I’ve written 500 stories, so that’s pretty awesome.

Well, those were just a few points that I’m probably going to talk about in my extended blog post. It actually felt pretty good to just write about it and not think too much about organizing my points and making sure everything makes sense. Maybe I should write my blogs like TTtW stories!
