“I Thought I Was Special”
Author’s Note: This is a Take Ten to Write story and has not been proofread for errors. If I feel inspired or if there’s interest in the story, I’ll post a revised, edited, and extended version at a later date. Happy reading!
Prompt: Write a story titled “I Thought I Was Special”.
I truly thought that I was the one for her. I thought that we would spend our lives together, that nothing could separate us.
Obviously, I was wrong.
Don’t get me wrong; I’m not mad at her. I’m not even disappointed. Just… still in shock, I guess. I’m sure the feelings of betrayal will come later, along with the mixed sadness and anger. But right now, I’m just in shock.
Of course I knew that she’d had others before. I guess I just assumed that I was special, that together, we were special. I thought that we were it. I thought that we could conquer the world together. That we would conquer the world together.
I’m not quite sure what happened, but one day, she just threw me aside as if I were nothing. I tried calling to her, but she didn’t listen. It was almost as if she couldn’t hear me anymore. Something between us had broken. I became invisible.
Soon, I was buried beneath the sheets, completely forgotten. I gathered dust, but she didn’t care. I was squished and tumbled, but she didn’t care.
Then, she saw me again. I thought that she would apologize, and that we would be back together. But she took one look at me before tossing me into a stuffy blue bag.
I never saw her again.
Final Comments: Whoops, I messed up the verb tenses. As I was writing, it seemed like the story should’ve happened more in the past than when I began, so that first part about the shock might not be relevant anymore…
