“I Blew It”
Author’s Note: This is a Take Ten to Write story and has not been proofread for errors. If I feel inspired or if there’s interest in the story, I’ll post a revised, edited, and extended version at a later date. Happy reading!
Prompt: Blow.
I blew it. Big time. I’d finally found the perfect guy and I couldn’t hold it together long enough to keep him around.
The worst part was that it was a stupid argument. I mean we were arguing about some dirt, for crying out loud!
It was our first real fight. Maybe that was the problem; we’d never fought before, so we just didn’t know how to fight. Or maybe it was because all our past problems had just collected and simmered before finally exploding in an enormous, irreversible ball of rage.
Well, it doesn’t really matter, does it? Now that I’ve calmed down, I realize that we both could’ve done better. But most of all, I could’ve done better. I know that he would’ve been more than willing to sit down and talk to me if I’d told him that that’s what I wanted. He would’ve listened to my complaints and promised to wash his dirty dishes and pick up the socks from the floor if I’d only asked. Because that’s the type of guy he is. Oblivious sometimes, sure, but ultimately, the most kind-hearted, generous, and loving human being I’ve ever met.
I have to get him back.
Final Comments: ‘Dirt’ was the first thing that popped into my mind, but I couldn’t think of an actual argument about dirt in the moment…
