“Hold On”

He hung on by the tips of his fingers, just barely able to keep his grip. His entire body shook from the effort, but still, he held on.

He held on, because he knew that she was coming for him. She always did. He had faith in her. He trusted that she would be here.

He waited for her, to see her running to him. He waited for what felt like hours.

His willpower wavered. His confidence faltered.

He couldn’t be certain that she was coming. Maybe this had been the last straw, the last incident that she could have taken. Maybe he had become too big of a burden, so much so that she would leave him behind and forget him.

He trembled. He was scared. He had never been scared before, because he knew that she would be coming for him. She had always been there before. But now? Now, he didn’t know what to do. Did he hold on? Was it worth it anymore?

If she didn’t love him, then nothing mattered anymore. She was his whole world, his reason to live. She had promised to always be there for him, but where was she now?

He took a deep breath. He knew what he had to do.

He let go.
