“Hmm…”

Prompt: “Hmm…” — suggested by Lexi

Hmm… This is a good place to start a story, I guess. I have no idea what I’m going to write for this Take Ten to Write story, so I think I’m just going to keep typing whatever comes to mind first. This is probably going to be a mess, but that’s okay, because this is a freewriting challenge and the goal is to just keep writing for ten minutes. I’m actually pretty impressed with how consistent I’ve been so far with my Take Ten to Write stories. I’ve managed to write one every day, and I’m pretty impressed with that. I was actually just quickly looking over my 2020 Writing Resolutions blog post that I made at the beginning of the year (whoops, I haven’t posted a blog post in forever) and I saw that my first goal was to write a Take Ten to Write story every day for the entire year. I can’t believe that the year’s already almost coming to a close; it’s insane! I will say though that I’m loving the look of the leaves outside. The trees are all so pretty, and I just love the colours of fall. But I don’t really like how bare the trees are looking. Sure, the leaves look nice on the ground (until it rains and you slip on them) but then you look up at the trees and they’re half-bare. It’s like, either shed them all or keep them all, you know?! I was trying to take a picture in my backyard this morning and the trees just looked so awkward. I don’t really know where I’m going with this… It is kind of fun to just write continuously like this without really thinking too much, but at the same time, it’s also kind of hard to think of things to write. I think that I’m thinking too much. It’s weird for me to not be writing an actual story right now, and to just be writing whatever comes to mind first. I wrote a poem like this before, but it was much prettier and probably more coherent than whatever this weird rant is. I’ve also written quite a few rants, but none of them were as weird as this one. This is definitely really different from any of the other stories I’ve written. And all because of the prompt “Hmm…”. I actually think that I used this prompt before, but maybe not. I also think that I’m starting to reuse titles for stories, but I haven’t reused the exact wording yet. I think that it’ll be fun to look back at the end of the year and see what types of stories I’ve written. Oh, I guess my ten minutes are up now. That was definitely a weird ten minutes of writing…
