“Her Light”
Author’s Note: This is a Take Ten to Write story and has not been proofread for errors. If I feel inspired or if there’s interest in the story, I’ll post a revised, edited, and extended version at a later date. Happy reading!
“Don’t give up.”
Her light was gone, swallowed whole in the depths of war.
The path before her was clear, but it was one that she had to walk alone. She knew that her friends wouldn’t understand. They never did. Before, their involvement hadn’t caused any harm. Today, it would.
Now, standing before her greatest enemy, her sole thought was of her friends. Of her new family. Their voices clouded her mind, weakened her, gave her enemy an opening.
Or so her enemy told her.
She knew differently. Her friends did not harm her. Her friends had saved her, time and time again. Her friends had been there for her when her own family hadn’t. Her friends strengthened her.
As she rose to her feet, she heard her friends’ voices in her mind. Keeping her steady. Giving her focus.
Her light had returned. She couldn’t give up. She wouldn’t give up. Not now. Not when she was so close.
She knew what had to be done.
Final Comments: This prompt offered so many great story opportunities (if you haven’t noticed, I’m a huge fan of fantasy and dystopian). That being said, because of that, I’m not sure if I’m completely satisfied with what I wrote today…
