“Heist Gone Wrong”
Author’s Note: This is a Take Ten to Write story and has not been proofread for errors. If I feel inspired or if there’s interest in the story, I’ll post a revised, edited, and extended version at a later date. Happy reading!
Prompt: “It exploded as soon as I touched it.”
I blink through the cloud of dust. I can’t see a darn thing because of that stupid explosion.
Needless to say that I’m pissed beyond belief.
My back protests as I force it to straighten. I struggle to my feet, pushing myself up with my arms.
“What the hell happened?” I demand before erupting in a bout of coughing.
When I’ve finished getting all the dust out of my lungs, Todd answers.
“I dunno. It just exploded as soon as I touched it.”
“Then how are you still alive?”
“I dunno.”
“Do you know anything?”
“I dunno.”
I roll my eyes and let out an exasperated sigh. This is why I don’t like working with family.
“Okay, go grab the diamonds,” I say.
“What about the feds?”
“What about them?”
“Aren’t they on their way?”
“Probably.”
“So shouldn’t we get out of here?”
I grab his jacket and shake him. “Get the diamonds,” I snap before pushing him away toward the vault.
He stumbles away, back toward the diamonds. I watch him for a moment more before turning and running. The sirens are getting closer; it’s only a matter of time before they get here. As long as they’re occupied by Todd, they won’t have the resources to chase me too.
But then there’s the hard part: telling my sister that I abandoned her son to the feds.
Final Comments: I started watching White Collar again recently and forgot how good it is… If you haven’t watched it, I highly recommend it!
