Take Ten to Write

“Girl of Wind”

Prompt: Write a story titled “Girl of Wind”.

I was never a true Believer of the Natural Magics. Not until She appeared before me.

It had been a blustery winter evening. I had always thought that the weather was as mercurial as a personality, though to think that the weather itself had a personality was simply foolish. The weather was the weather, and that was that.

But I’m losing my train of thought. As I was saying, it was a blustery winter evening. I watched as those idiot Believers walked home, their hands raised to shield their faces against the cold blasts of snow and ice. Honestly, it was just logic: if the Believers truly could use the Natural Magics, why would they be allowing their own bodies to get battered by something as small as a gust wind.

The last Believer disappeared over the ridge, leaving me shivering, my cloak pulled tight around my shoulders. The cold was starting to seep into my joints, locking them up. I knew that I would be stuck there, an icicle of a human being, if I didn’t move soon.

And try I did. But by the time I had made that chilling realization, it was too late. I was stuck.

I had just about lost hope when She appeared. At first, there was just a faint glow on the horizon. I thought my eyes were deceiving me.

But no, She was real. A girl, wrapped in a dress of pure white, created from thin Air itself.

A Girl of Wind.
