“Fry! Be Free!”

Prompt: Fry.

“Fry! Be free!”

I stare at my dad. “Did you mean ‘Fly! Be free!’?”

He frowns at me like I’m crazy. “No.” He holds up a French fry. “I literally meant ‘Fry! Be free!'” He throws the fry up into the air and watches it be snatched up by the seagulls.

“You do realize that the seagulls are just going to keep bugging you for fries now, right?”

“Pfft.” My dad waves his hand nonchalantly. “It’ll be fine.”

“You also said that it would be fine for us to put the lettuce plants outside.”

“How was I to know that the rabbit would come eat it?!”

“Because rabbits eat lettuce!”

My dad just shrugs while I let out a sigh of exasperation. Suddenly, my eyes widen.

“Um…” I nudge him.

“What?”

I nod at the dozens of pairs of beady eyes staring at us. “I hope you have a lot of leftover fries.”

Final Comments: I’m 99.999% sure this is an actual conversation I’ve had with my dad before…
