“Electric Shock”

Prompt: Write a story titled “Electric Shock”.
I was told that love would feel like an electric shock. My mom told me that, back when I first became eligible to find a partner. An electric shock. That didn’t sound so bad. In fact, Mom almost made it sound pleasant. A little tingle through your fingers that makes its way all through your body. Apparently, the feeling just about consumes you. Your love consumes you. But in a pleasant way.
Needless to say, I wasn’t in any hurry to fall in love. That is, until I met her.
Yeah, yeah, I know that you don’t want to hear about my pathetic attempts at the wooing rituals. Let’s just say that I wasn’t the only one who was attracted to her.
And yet, I wasn’t in love. It couldn’t be love, because I hadn’t felt that electric shock yet. That elusive electric shock…
But I persisted. I kept trying to win over her love. I kept searching for that electric shock.
I never did get it. And boy, am I glad that I didn’t.
Final Comments: My original idea was that the protagonist dies when he feels the ‘electric shock’ from his true love. Then it morphed into the men being completely mind-controlled when they feel the electric shock. Then I realized that in both cases, the protagonist wouldn’t be able to be the narrator…
