“Dragon Rider”

Prompt: “Dragon rider”

I’ve always known that I was going to be a Dragon Rider. My parents were Riders, as were my grandparents, and their parents before them.

Of course, the meaning of being a “Dragon Rider” has greatly changed over the years. Legend says that there were once actual dragons. Living, fire-breathing, dragons. Now, that just sounds stupid to me. I mean, are we supposed to believe that giraffes were real too? With their long necks and purple tongues? Honestly, giraffes sound more made-up than dragons.

But, getting back to my point. Dragon Riders apparently used to ride real creatures. That just sounds too unreliable to me. I mean, what if the thing decides one day that it doesn’t want to ride into battle with you? What if it runs away? No, that would be awful.

Nowadays, we rely only on our own hands and brain to control our dragons. My parents both have the G-1900 model, although Ma’s is blue and Pa’s is gold. The G-1900s are pretty old now, and while the software is still receiving updates, those dragons are pretty much at the end of their lifespans.

When I get my dragon in the spring, it’ll be the newest model. The J-2000.
