Take Ten to Write

“Do I Want To Know?”

Author’s Note: This is a Take Ten to Write story and has not been proofread for errors. If I feel inspired or if there’s interest in the story, I’ll post a revised, edited, and extended version at a later date. Happy reading!

Kanter collapsed onto the cot with a huff, relishing the feeling of relaxation after hours of fighting. Still, he forced himself to take off his blood-soaked clothing; he knew that if he waited too long, he would fall asleep and the blood would dry and harden onto the fabric.

Gangius glanced over his shoulder before turning back to his work. “Do I want to know?”

“Probably not.”

“Alright.”

As Kanter pulled off his shirt, Gangius spun around in his chair. “No, you know what? I do want to know. Because as your best friend, I think that it’s my duty to know everything you get up to, both good and bad.”

“Just because my clothes are red doesn’t mean that I did something bad.”

“Did you?”

“… Yes.” Kanter sighed. “I spent the whole ride back here trying to convince myself otherwise, but yes, what I did was, is, and will always be considered bad.”

Gangius raised an eyebrow. “That bad, huh?”

“Yes. So bad that Iza might not want to marry me anymore when she hears about it.”

Gangius released a snort-type form of laugh. “Are you joking?”

“No, why?”

“You’re seriously saying that you’re not sure if Iza will still want to marry you? Iza, the love of your life.” He stood up and grabbed Kanter’s shoulders, shaking him slightly. “Kanter, I’m fairly certain that you could destroy the entire world and she would still marry you.”

Final Comments: I’m really enjoying writing these little excerpts!
