Prompt: “Feline frenzy.” — suggested by BLu

“They’re everywhere!” Stuart hissed, pressing his back against the door. “We’re completely surrounded!”

My heartbeat matched the rhythmic thump… thump… thump… against the wall.

“What are they doing?” I whispered back. My grip tightened around my baseball bat at one particularly loud THWACK.

Stuart shook his head, still struggling to keep the door from caving in. “They’re running at the wall. I think they’re trying to get inside.”

“So what, they’re headbutting it?”

“Yeah, pretty much.”

So it’s true. They’ve all gone insane. There’s no way to reason with them anymore.

My eyes flicker to the tank of fish on the side of the room. “So you’re saying that we put up with that stink for days for nothing?”

“Yep.”

“Ugh, great.” If only we’d known that when our freezer died.

A sharp claw suddenly slashed through the wall right next to Stuart’s ear. He let out a high-pitched shriek and jumped away from the door.

“No, wait!”

But it was too late. The door shattered and in tumbled the pack of crazed cats. I watched Stuart disappear under a pile of fur and claws before, seconds later, suffering the same fate.
