The clouds hovered menacingly over the clear, blue ocean. A storm was coming, that much was certain.

Sahira stood at the bow of the ship, looking out over the sea. She always felt the most in control just before a storm. There was just something about the way the water rippled beneath the incoming winds that hypnotized her.

The captain called for her to get inside, but she couldn’t hear him. She was completely entranced by the dappling of the water, the sparkling of the light on the waves.

Thunder rumbled in the distance.

The water called her name, whispering over and over.

Sahira… Sahira…

She slowly walked forward, the wind yanking her hair back. The water wanted her to join it, to dive deep into its depths.

Sahira…

A flash of lightning lit up the sky, illuminating her face as she stared over the railing.

Sahira…

The captain’s voice faded away, replaced by that of the water. She was at its mercy. She was willing to obey its every command.

If only she could join it.

Sahira…

In a fluid motion, she was over the railing and into the water below.

Immediately, cold washed over her. It gripped at her limbs, pulling her down.

Thunder boomed.

Cold fingers clawed at her.

Lightning flashed.

She was dragged down, into the darkness.

The storm erupted.

Final Comments: I feel like the beginning of this story was pretty disjointed from the rest, because I had no idea what was going to happen plot-wise until much later…
